Datierung und Herkunft umstritten. Laut MERCIER deutet die Nähe zu Tours, BM, 22 aufgrund der irischen Charakteristiken auf eine Entstehung in Tours hin. Da Tours, BM, 22 vermutlich nicht aus Tours stammt, überzeugt diese Argumentation nicht. KÖHLER zweifelt in seiner Rezension an einer Entstehung in Tours und sieht den Ursprung der Handschrift in der Bretagne. Dem schließt sich FISCHER an  
Bischoff, n°5092.

(Entstanden ist die Handschrift wohl entweder in der Bretagne oder in Irland und gelangte dann vermutlich im 9. Jhd. nach Tours. Im Bibliothekskatalog von 1706 von St-Gatien, 1842 durch Libri gestohlen, 1847 an Lord Ashburnham gelangt. 1888 durch die BnF gekauft.)
